Pentane is an organic compound that is a five-carbon alkane. Pentane (also called n-pentane) has two other isomers, called isopentane and neopentane.

Pentanes are commonly used in fuel or as specialty solvents in a laboratory. The properties of this molecule are very similar to butanes and hexanes, due to the similar carbon chain length and bonds.
